See a 1942 Ryan Aeronautical PT-22 Recruit at the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum. Year: 1942

Donation: Terry Brandt

Engine: Kinner R-55 160HP

The Ryan PT-22 is a primary trainer, meaning that it would be the first airplane a pilot trainee would be introduced to in his flight training. It was based on the famous Ryan ST but it was much modified to meet the Army’s needs. The Recruit was a stern taskmaster and students who were inattentive to airspeed near the runway would scare or hurt themselves and bend airplanes. Ryan built this airplane from 1940-1942.
