See a 1928 American Eagle 101 at the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum. Year: 1928

Donation: Terry Brandt

Engine: Curtiss OX-5 90HP

The American Eagle A-1 (redesignated A-101 when it was certified) was designed in 1925 as a replacement for the worn out and obsolete Jenny and Standard biplane trainers. The designers had the sole aim to built a good, sound, practical airplane incorporating the lessons learned of experience. The burnished cowl is the same finish that distinguished the Ryan Spirit of St. Louis. American Eagle A-101 was a good flyer that was offered with several engines besides the standard Curtiss OX-5. A victim of the depression, the American Eagle company failed and its assets were bought by Lincoln-Page in 1931. This airplane is particularly rare and is the last one flying with the OX-5.
