WAAAM hosts all types of fun events for kids, adults, groups, and associations. Some of these we put on ourselves, and some are run by outside groups.
There’s a play area for kids, there are classrooms and meeting rooms where small groups can get together, there’s a large area inside for special functions, and there’s plenty of space outside for picnics, car rallies, and lots of other fun activities.
Local schools regularly take field trips to WAAAM, where kids enjoy the rare treat of seeing history come alive. Boy Scout groups and other kid’s groups are also frequent visitors to WAAAM.
Plus in the summer, WAAAM is available to host special events and classes like the WAAAM CAMPS held in previous years, where boys and girls get to spend four days of their summer vacation learning about various aspects of aviation.
We also open up our facility to car clubs, motorcycle clubs, airplane clubs, and other groups whose activities relate to the mission of our museum … which is to preserve, restore, and bring back to life, antiques fly and drive.
Groups such as the Ring Kings, the Pacific Cascade Plymouth Car Club, the Portland Horseless Carriage Club, the Foretravel Motorcade Club, and the Cascade Warbirds are just a few of the clubs visiting WAAAM this year.
One of the best things about WAAAM is that people don’t just come to us, we can go to them! Because all of our autos drive, and all of our planes fly, we can take them out and show them off in local parades, festivals, school and other events.
Last year, for instance, among other things, we flew a number of planes down to Bend, Oregon, we led the July 4th parade in Hood River, we did a fly-over as part of the Memorial Day celebration, and we participated in the “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” Art show with Columbia Center for the Arts.
The WAAAM app was featured by iTunes and reached #2 in Travel's New and Noteworthy section!
We especially welcome group events that relate in some way to our mission of preserving and restoring antique vehicles.
We also welcome the opportunity to offer our facility for fundraising and other events that have value to the community at large.
Seven Boy Scout troops, coming from Vancouver, Washougal, Vancouver, and Hood River, attended a recent Fly-In. Sixty-five scouts participated, along with their scout leaders. Each boy provided an average of 7.5 hours of service over the weekend.
25 boys earned their Aviation Merit Badge, and four older boys who had some mechanical ability were given a private tour of WAAAM's restoration hangar.
Think about us the next time you're planning a group outing, and when you're looking for everyone in your group to say "WOW!"
Skyline Foundation and WAAAM worked together to put on a Ping Pong tournament for people of all ages. A total of 87 players from as far west as Salem and east as Richland participated.
The ages of participants ranged from 18 to 78. Everyone had a fabulous time.
It was so much fun and so successful, that we're going to make it into a yearly event.
Lots of things go on at WAAAM ... some things are organized well in advance, and other things just happen.
Cars show up, planes fly in, people get together for impromptu fun and games.
Check out the fun in this video, and if you want to plan an event related to our mission to preserve, restore, and bring to life antique vehicles, then by all means, give us a call!
